Vieraiden palautteet

We spent two half-days with Go Sápmi in mid-March 2026 : an afternoon/evening on day one, and then the morning and lunchtime on day two. We only had a short time in Utsjoki, so we were very pleased that Pentti was flexible in working with our timings, as well as customising the itinerary to our requirements. This meant that we avoided repeating activities we had already tried elsewhere and were able to fit in the other things we wanted to do locally.

Our guide was Arvi: a snowmobile racing champion, chef and entertaining storyteller! On our first day, we took a snowmobile-drawn sleigh ride across the tundra to traditional Sámi goahti (turf cabin). After learning about arctic fox conservation and building the fire, we set off to set some grouse traps. When we were done, Arvi cooked us a meal in the cabin - smoked moose stewed in beer, served with stories of modern Sámi life. Our ride back across the tundra was after sunset, which meant we watched the Northern Lights above the snowfields, including driving underneath them: an unforgettable experience. On day two, we returned to the frozen tundra to check our grouse traps, then rode in the sleigh to a traditional Sámi site: a 600-year-old stone reindeer corral. We headed to the goahti for lunch, before heading back across the tundra to finish our trip.

We had contacted Go Sápmi in the first place because we wanted to come to Utsjoki and learn about Sámi life as it really is - in a way that isn't dressed up for tourists. That's exactly what we got, in the form of a warm welcome from a Sámi family-run business. We were visiting from Helsinki and it was well worth the long journey. We would recommend Go Sápmi to anyone considering a trip to northern Lapland.
